Friday the 13th usually means bad luck, but not if you were at Space in Evanston last Friday. That’s because The Lumineers, performed a Free Sample concert just before their sold out show later that night. Those lucky listeners were treated to the stamping of heels, yells, and harmonies of the Denver based band.
Lead vocalist, Wesley Keith, began the show alone with a guitar. But, before the night was through, Jeremiah and Neyla joined him on stage with drums, accordions, tambourines, and more to add to the mix. It was an eclectic set, something a little different than the standard two guitars-bass-drums-yawn arrangement.

[photogallerylink id=123251 align=left]Neyla’s pluck of the cello was beautifully harmonized with the soothing voice of Wesley. The crowd was captivated during this hour long show, but when the tambourine hit the hand of suspender-clad Jeremiah, and the words “Ho Hey!” came out of the trio’s mouths, the show really opened up.
The intimate setting Space provided was an extra bonus. The chic room’s slightly elevated stage set in front of a cloth backdrop with different color lights added a beautiful compliment to the dreamy vocals of Wesley and Neyla. After the show was over, the band hung around and signed copies of CD’s, shirts, and posters for all the fans. They were excited to meet them, have conversations, and take pictures. The band was down to earth and, Jeremiah especially, treated each fan like they had been friends forever.
