I’m in love…with my internship! From the Studio X events to running around Wing Fest taking pictures, I would not trade the experiences I have gained at XRT for anything. I have learned so much while having a great time. March alone has been extremely busy with appearances and events, but I can safely say I am having the time of my life!

Spring Break certainly came and went, but I have a great story to go along with it: Andrew Bird Studio X. It’s an understatement to say how blown away I was by his concert.

He’s a one-man orchestra, but month Bird surprised us, bringing his full band along to give it away for free at this a very special Live from Studio X performance!

You can ask the other intern, Alison, if you don’t believe me. I was quite surprised on that unusually warm March 21st when I arrived early at Martyrs’ on Lincoln to set up. Not only is the venue the size of my grandma’s condo, Andrew Bird himself was doing a sound check for the outstanding performance he would be giving later that night. As I was ripping raffle tickets and hanging signs, I listened in awe! (and of course peeking every few minutes to see the man himself). I was pretty much in heaven. Andrew Bird knows I exist.

I had previously seen Andrew Bird’s Gezelligheid shows at the Fourth Presbyterian Church on Michigan Ave. Judging from that, I knew this was going to be something spectacular. He had his full band and did a full set, something rare for a Studio X concert. Before this event, I never thought that I would be able to say I have seen Andrew Bird play in such a small setting. The intimate atmosphere conveyed so much emotion to the captivated audience. I could hear every pluck of the violin and feel the passion he conveyed through his music. It was a sight to see and something you definitely miss at larger venues.

‘Break It Yourself’ is the featured $5 album of the Week on Amazon MP3.
