OK, so I’m a Pelican geek. OK, so the beginning riff of the new EP’s “Lathe Biosas” is straight off Master of Reality. None of that means this isn’t one of the best things this “thunderous post-instrumental outfit” has done.
“Lathe Biosas” morphs into pure Pelican about a minute in, kicks in to some great band interplay at 2:25 and then goes bigger from there. Hey, any band that makes me want to play riffs this righteous and heavy on the radio is king of the world in my book.
The boys in the band asked me how I was doing and I replied “Man, I’m good. Even better now that I’ve got new Pelican music”. You will be, too, when you join me for a show of new Chicago music including Pelican’s Ataraxia/Taraxison on this week’s Local Anesthetic, Sunday night at 7:30 here on XRT.
