[lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Janiva Magness [/lastfm]has just released her ninth album, Stronger for It. Her bio puts it very well when it says Janiva is a charismatic artist known for her electrifying live shows… among the premier blues and R&B singers in the world today. Her voice possesses an earthy, raw honesty born from her life experience… She won the coveted 2009 Blues Music Award for B.B. King Entertainer of the Year (she is only the second woman to ever win this award, Koko Taylor being the first) and for Contemporary Blues Female Artist of the Year, an honor she also received in 2006 and 2007. She has recently been nominated for a 2012 Blues Music Award for Contemporary Blues Female Artist of the Year. The show starts at 8:00pm tonight (Friday) at S.P.A.C.E. in Evanston.
[lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Mud Morganfield[/lastfm], eldest son of Muddy Waters has just released his first widely distributed album, Son of the Seventh Son, a fine blues album with some of the best sidemen in Chicago Blues. Mud bears an amazing resemblance to his father in his appearance, but especially in the sound of his voice and the way he sings. The last time I saw him at Legends Buddy was on stage with him and kept shaking his head, he just couldn’t believe how much Mud reminded him of Muddy. The show begins at 9:30 with opener The Chicago Blues Angels at Buddy Guy’s Legends tomorrow (Saturday) night.
