The Shins Bring ‘Port of Morrow’ To Live On Letterman [Watch]

The Shins Play The Astoria

James Mercer and the Shins may have entered the Ed Sullivan Theater in a very unassuming manner and sauntered onto stage as if it were no big thing, but as soon as they launched into “Caring is Creepy,” the Live on Letterman performance was clearly not just a typical show.

A small number of lucky, die-hard Shins fans were fortunate enough to be at the Ed Sullivan Theater in New York to witness the intimate show in person, but thousands more watched online, and the power of the show was not lost on the internet. We’ve got more details, fans reactions from around the globe, and your chance to watch an encore performance of the full concert inside.

Tonight’s performance was partially a celebration of the Shins new album, released today, Port of Morrow, but the band also brought the big guns and seamlessly transitioned from the new album to the material we’ve all had on our iPod’s for the better part of the last decade. Before the show even began, frontman James Mercer  promised a “cavalcade of hits,” and he didn’t let us down, combining the best of the new album with the classics we’ve grown to love so much.

The Shins sounded just as comfortable with their new material, including “Simple Song,” “Port of Morrow,” and “The Rifle’s Spiral,” as they did with the oft-played favorites “Caring is Creepy” and “New Slang.” Fans on Twitter seemed to agree:

You can watch an encore performance right here, and don’t forget to check back for on-demand content featuring individual songs.
