[pullquote quote=”This evening was pretty special for me. I was extremely nervous…but I was also thrilled.” credit=”David Byrne”]David Byrne is one of the great geniuses of modern music. Not only did he lead the eclectic art rockers Talking Heads into the top ten, win an academy award, turn an entire building into a musical instrument and say “thank you” better than any other singer, but he recently designed bike racks in New York City and wrote a popular book about his cycling adventures. So, it should come as no surprise that he has teamed up with the brilliant Caetano Veloso.
The pair first came together during the collaboration of Red Hot + Lisbon benefit album. In the spring of ’04, Veloso curated a week of special concerts at New York’s Carnegie Hall and asked Byrene to join him for a night during his residency. Preview the album below.
[pullquote quote=”It’s finally here, and you get a free download of one of the songs we did!” credit=”David Byrne”]The two incredible artists have release that live performance from Carnegie at Hall. Tracks feature Caetano singing in Spanish and David in English. Their diverse styles oddly enough mesh together in a sultry acoustic delight. Bryne wrote, “Some folks thought we made a pretty odd couple, but we actually have a lot in common. The Red Hot folks suggested we do something together and I had a song I hadn’t finished, on which I used a percussion loop from a Caetano song as an inspirational rhythmic bed. Since we already knew one another, the idea of finishing that song seemed obvious. ”
The 18-track Live At Carnegie Hall recording has just been issued via NoneSuch Records and you can hear samples of the tracks and buy the album at the NoneSuch site here.
