Local Memorial Set For Hubert Sumlin, Mick And Keith Reportedly Pay For Funeral
[lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Hubert Sumlin[/lastfm], legendary blues guitarist for the [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Howlin’ Wolf[/lastfm] band died this past Sunday. (see more) His services and wake will take place this weekend in New Jersey where he has been living for the past ten years. However, he will be buried this coming Tuesday in south suburban Chicago. A memorial is being planned for that evening in the Chicago area. News today from Hubert’s road manager and friend’s posting on facebook is that [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Mick Jagger[/lastfm] and [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Keith Richards[/lastfm] have offered to pay for the funeral expenses.

FitzGerald’s Nightclub in Berwyn will be hosting a reception/benefit/tribute concert/blues jam on Tuesday evening, December 13. Doors will open at 7PM with no set cover charge but donations will be accepted at the door. Hubert has made numerous appearances in the Chicago area in recent years including as part of a tribute to Robert Johnson at Orchestra Hall and at the Chicago Blues Festival, but the last full club gig was when he played with [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]The Nighthawks[/lastfm] at the Berwyn roadhouse, where he also performed with [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Bob Margolin [/lastfm]and [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Pinetop Perkins[/lastfm] in a memorable show about a year earlier.

Funds raised at the show will go to The HART Fund, a part of The Blues Foundation that provides support to Blues musicians and their families in financial need due to a broad range of health concerns. It is also requested that in lieu of flowers donations be sent to this fund.
