[photogallerylink id=70610 align=left][lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Poi Dog Pondering[/lastfm] celebrates their 25th Anniversary as a band this weekend in two XRT Snug Hugs For Kids Concerts at Metro. Each show features a different line-up from a different city with a different set-list.
This will be a special weekend of XRT shows with Poi Dog Pondering at Metro tonight (Friday) and Saturday, “A Tale of Two Cities: The Austin Years and The Chicago Years”.
Poi Dog Pondering first came together in the mid-80’s in Honolulu. As they came to tour the mainland the band was attracted to Austin, where they relocated in 1987 and where the line-up changed a bit and three albums were recorded. Band leader [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Frank Orrall[/lastfm] never planned to stay in Austin permanently, though, as he was drawn to more urban sounds of the sort he found in Chicago. In 1992 the band relocated again, this time to our town where elements of House Music were brought into the band and more players were added.
This weekend will feature the Austin version of Poi on Friday night and the Chicago version on Saturday night at Metro. Frank explains that he would have liked to include the Hawaiian line-up of the band, too, but, “one member lives in Berlin, another in Paris and a few more in L.A. and Hawaii and it was just out of our financial reach to bring them in for this.”
Have fun on this special weekend, Poi Dog Pondering fans. See you there on Saturday night.
Plus, don’t forget this is a Snug Hugs For Kids concert. XRT DJ’s and people from Merlin’s 200,000 Mile Shops will be there to greet you and collect your donations of children’s winter clothing to benefit the kids served by Children’s Home + Aid.
