The San Francisco Chronicle once said of the [lastfm]Avett Brothers[/lastfm]: they have “heavy sadness of [lastfm]Townes Van Zandt[/lastfm], the light pop concision of [lastfm]Buddy Holly[/lastfm], the tuneful jangle of the [lastfm]Beatles[/lastfm], the raw energy of the [lastfm]Ramones[/lastfm].” That covers about 1/10 of it.

The other 9/10-s of the equation are a combination of humility (they consider themselves just simple working men), gratitude (they truly appreciate being professional musicians) and passion (which is evident in their voices both on record and in concert).
And speaking of concerts, the next great place to see the Avett Brothers live will be this weekend in Florida. They’re part of a massive opening day lineup that includes the Roots, the Killers, the Raconteurs, Gogol Bordello and yesterday’s Free MP3 of the Day country band, Drive By Truckers.
(Bob Seger headlines Day 2 along with the Doobie Brothers, Warren Haynes, Del McCoury and Dwight Yoakam).
Not going to be in the big “O” this weekend? Be there in spirit with this delightful tune that brings together all those influences we quoted earlier (from their 2007 release, Emotionalism).
