[photogallerylink id=90958 align=left]20 years ago, [lastfm]Nirvana[/lastfm] released their quintessential grunge album Nevermind, casting hair metal out of the spotlight and ushering in a new age of alternative rock and flannel shirts. To commemorate this momentous occasion in rock ‘n roll history, the album is being reissued as part of a 4 CD, 1 DVD, Super Deluxe Edition consisting of the unreleased original mix by producer Butch Vig.
[photogallerylink id=75821 align=left]The album was originally both produced and mixed by Vig, but Andy Wallace was brought in to do the final mix and give the album a more polished, radio-friendly sound (or at least as radio-friendly as screaming at the top of your lungs can get). The box set will contain photos, unreleased demos, a live CD and DVD from the legendary Halloween show at the Paramount Theatre in 1991.
To celebrate the 20th anniversary of the release of Nevermind, Spin has made available an album of artists covering the songs in order. Track 1? Meat Puppets, “Smells Like Teen Spirit.” Track 4? Titus Andronicus, “Breed.” The album is free as long as you “like” Spin on Facebook. Telekinesis does a pretty good job with “On A Plain,” too. Grab it below.
