[photogallerylink id=94955 align=left]Young Chicago-native indie rock band, [lastfm]Smith Westerns[/lastfm] was formed in 2007 by brothers Cullen and Cameron Omori and Max Kakacek. Their 2010 self-titled, lo-fi album resulted in massive critical claim among the indie rock and pop music community. Since the release of Dye It Blonde, the band has taken charge across America hitting every state from Tennessee to Colorado.
Watch the band kick off Lolla weekend with “Weekend” in their exclusive Lollapalooza performance recorded live in the XRT Studios.
[photogallerylink id=93140 align=left]The sophomore album “Dye It Blonde” was the product of an actual budget, a coveted music label, and a real, big-time producer. After being signed with Fat Possum, Smith Westerns took full advantage of their new studio budget and resources, allowing them to expand and better their already beloved sound and presence as a new, powerful force in the indie rock scene. With 90′s Britpop (Oasis, Teenage Fanclub) influences, their first single release from the album, “Weekend,” reintroduces listeners to their familiar yet improved catchy guitar licks, impressive lyrics, and unique psychadelic feel.
[photogallerylink id=89816 align=left]This spring the band was featured at some of the country’s largest and most revered music festivals including Austin City Limits and SXSW. But now it’s time for the Chicago-native band to get back to their roots, as they take the stage on Friday, August 5th at the most anticipated event of the summer: The 30th anniversary of Lollapalooza. Get ready Chicago, one of your youngest and most talented indie rock bands is coming back to you.
