I got a number of emails from a few listeners saying they were firing up the grill for a 4th of July party. The meats, veggies and beers were bought but needed some suggestions for some of my favorite American/4th of July songs for their mix.
1. Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band – 4th of July, Asbury Park (Sandy)
With the recent passing of The Big Man, I figure this one is a given. It might take place in Asbury Park, but we all know these wonderful memories of past 4th of Julys.
2. Dave Alvin – 4th of July
The LA band X made this song famous but was written by Dave Alvin (The Blasters), pretty positive he’ll perform it this year at
Fitzgerald’s annual Great American Music Festival. Get the whole Fitzgerald’s Schedule Here
Here’s Dave Alvin’s version
3. James Brown – Living in America
James performed this in the Rocky IV in an outrageous production number
4. Grateful Dead – U.S. Blues
“I’m Uncle Sam, that’s who I am. Been Hiding out in a Rock And Roll Band!”
5. The Fleshtones – American Beat ’84
Can’t celebrate America without celebrating The American Sound!
6. Neil Diamond – America
Someone has to bring the cheese to the backyard, why not Neil.
