Grammy and Brit Award winning musician [lastfm]Dave Stewart[/lastfm] is making waves this week with the release of his new album The Blackbird Diaries. This record makes the first venture into new material as a solo artist since his 1998 release of Sly Fi. The Blackbird Diaries signifies a bold change of pace for the legendary songwriter, in drawing a heavy emphasis on Ameriana stylings with a touch of blues. Complimenting these heartland sounds are Stewart’s well-defined lyrics that are more autobiographic and narrative driven than his previous efforts.

Hailing from Sunderland, England, Stewart embarked on his musical career as a team, when in 1976 he was introduced to his future musical and romantic partner, [lastfm]Annie Lennox[/lastfm]. The two formed [lastfm]Eurythmics[/lastfm] in 1980, a new wave, synth drive pop rock group that was to become one of the most successful duos of all time. They ventured into the mainstream music scene in 1983 with the release of their second album, Sweet Dreams (Are Made of These). Their hit single of the same name launched Eurythmics into pop icons.

Stewart additionally experimented behind the scenes, producing material for Tom Petty, Ringo Starr, and most recently, Joss Stone. He has played on style with the likes of legends such as BB King, U2, and Bruce Springsteen. And now with The Blackbird Diaries, featuring guests like Stevie Nicks and Colbie Caillat, Stewart extends his career in the music world into a new decade.
