38-year-old Mancunian [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Liam Gallagher[/lastfm] is most infamous for his tenure as the “world’s greatest rock frontman” in the Britpop band [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Oasis[/lastfm]. In 2009, Liam and the rest of Oasis (minus his brother Noel) started a band called [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Beady Eye[/lastfm]–who are playing streaming a Live on Letterman concert from The Ed Sullivan Theater in New York City on Wednesday, June 22 at 8pm ET / 5pm PT.

To help prep you for the streaming show (which you can watch right here, by the way), let’s take a look back at how Liam got to where he is.

1991-1992:

  • Liam Gallagher starts a band called [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]The Rain[/lastfm] with mate Paul “Guigsy” McGuigan. The duo is so bad at songwriting that Liam invites his brother Noel Gallagher on board, to which Noel agrees as long as he can be the sole songwriter.
  • Liam then decided that the band should change its name to Oasis.

1994:

  • Oasis acquires a record deal with Creation Records.
  • The band releases its début album, Definitely Maybe, to critical acclaim with hit singles like “Supersonic” and “Live Forever.”
  • Definitely Maybe has been certified 7x Platinum in the United Kingdom and sold over 1 million copies in the United States. It continually appears on Best Album lists to date.
  • Oasis books their first American tour with Liam becoming a press favorite by changing the words of his brother’s songs to be offensive.
  • Liam and Noel have one of their first public brawls.
  • Noel leaves the tour.
  • While recording their sophomore album, Liam and Noel get into a huge fight in the studio because of conflict on who would sing lead vocals on certain tracks like “Wonderwall” and “Don’t Look Back In Anger.” Guitarist Paul “Bonehead” Arthurs calls Oasis’ management firm to “cancel” the album recording.
  • Three weeks later, the brothers had effectively reconciled to record What’s The Story, Morning Glory?
