Blues on the Fox
The decision on the pick for live blues show of the weekend could not be easier. The Blues on the Fox Festival in Aurora tonight (Friday) and tomorrow outshines even the Chicago Blues Festival in sheer star power.
The Blues on the Fox Festival was begun by Blues lovers in the mid nineties in part to draw attention to Downtown Aurora’s Blues history, in part, I’m thinking, just to have a good time. Many famous early “Chicago Blues” sides were recorded here in the Leland Hotel including the original “Good Morning Little Schoolgirl” by the orginal [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Sonny Boy Williamson[/lastfm]. This year marks the first time the festival is not free. The minimal five dollar cover charge allows for funds to expand the festival to a new location and to hire a bunch of really good acts. [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Robert Cray[/lastfm] stars tonight (Friday) and [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Buddy Guy[/lastfm] stars tomorrow night, but the whole line-up is good. If you go today, make sure you get there by 6:30 to catch [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Eric Lindell[/lastfm]. Tomorrow (Saturday) is a crazy good line-up that begins in the early afternoon an includes performances by [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Billy Branch[/lastfm], [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Kenny Neal[/lastfm] and [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Charlie Musselwhite[/lastfm] leading up to [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Buddy Guy[/lastfm] at 8:30.
