For the last several years iconic rocker [lastfm]Neil Young[/lastfm] has been releasing gems from his extensive archives. Fans and collectors have rejoiced over this steady stream of live cuts, rarities, studio demos and other delicious tidbits spanning Young’s 40+ year career.
The latest offering is titled A Treasure and it chronicles one of the most interesting periods in Young’s musical history: the period from 1984-85 when he toured with the International Harvesters. Click through to find out what to expect from this incredible new live album, another gem from the archives.
When [lastfm]Neil Young[/lastfm] initially began making music with International Harvesters it was a controversial move (like so many of Young’s moves over the years). Label head David Geffen felt the music was “too country” and would damage Young’s reputation. This probably only served to further motivate Young, who hit the road with the Harvesters for a now-legendary tour in 1984 and 1985.
At the time the [lastfm]International Harvesters[/lastfm] included steel/slide virtuoso Ben Keith, fiddle player Rufus Thibodeaux, Spooner Oldham and Hargus “Pig” Robbins on piano, Tim Drummond and Joe Allen on bass, Anthony Crawford on mandolins and guitars and Karl Himmel on drums.
