
Blues Breakers Artist of the Week: Taj Mahal

- STATESBORO BLUES – [lastfm]TAJ MAHAL [/lastfm] -This is Taj’s take on the classic [lastfm]Blind Willie McTell[/lastfm] song famously covered by the [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Allman Brothers Band[/lastfm]. This is from the second [lastfm]Taj Mahal[/lastfm] album, Taj Mahal, from 1968.
- SUNRISE – [lastfm]TAB BENOIT [/lastfm] – From Tab’s new album, Medicine. This album was co-produced by Tab and Anders Osborne, this song was co-written by Tab and Anders, and Anders contribute guitar and vocals to this song.
- BAD GIRL – [lastfm]DEMETRIA TAYLOR [/lastfm]- A brand new, debut album, Bad Girl, from a very talented Chicago woman who comes from an extended Chicago blues family. Demetria is the youngest daughter of one of the most influential yet underrated Chicago blues guitarists, [lastfm]Eddie Taylor[/lastfm]. She performs regularly at B.L.U.E.S. on Halsted and Blue Chicago. The release party for this new Delmark CD will be this Friday at B.L.U.E.S. on Halsted. [lastfm]Billy Branch[/lastfm] guests on harp, [lastfm]Eddie Shaw[/lastfm] on sax.
- MOCKINGBIRD- [lastfm]TAJ MAHAL[/lastfm] AND [lastfm]ETTA JAMES[/lastfm] -Taj joined by Etta on version of the classic 1963 song written and recorded by Inez and Charlie and Foxx. This comes from Taj’s 1993 album, Dancing the Blues.
- SHOOT MY BABY – [lastfm]TRACY NELSON[/lastfm] – This is an old [lastfm]Jimmy Reed[/lastfm] song that’s on the new album by Tracy called Victim of the Blues. [lastfm]Marcia Ball[/lastfm] plays piano.
- MR. PITIFUL – [lastfm]TAJ MAHAL [/lastfm] -This is a cover of an often covered song that shows up on Taj’s 1997 album, Senor Blues. The orignal was recorded in 1965 by [lastfm]Otis Redding[/lastfm].
- I BELIEVE I’LL GO BACK HOME – [lastfm]GREGG ALLMAN[/lastfm] – This is an old blues song in the public domain that was arranged by Gregg and this album’s producer T-Bone Burnett.
- ASHES IN MY ASHTRAY – [lastfm]JIMMY JOHNSON[/lastfm] – Jimmy returns this Thursday night to Buddy Guy’s Legends after a bit of time off. This song is from his 1991 album, Jonson’s Whacks.
- OOH POO PAH DOO – [lastfm]TAJ MAHAL [/lastfm] -From the 1996 album, Phantom Blues. This is an old New Orleans song originally recorded by [lastfm]Jessie Hill[/lastfm] in 1960.
- SOMETHINGS GOING DOWN – [lastfm]WAYNE BAKER BROOKS [/lastfm] – This is a new recording from Wayne featuring [lastfm]Twista[/lastfm] and [lastfm]GLC[/lastfm] from a forthcoming album. Wayne will be a part of our Blues Breakers Blues Fest Broadcast from Buddy Guy’s Legends on June 9, the evening before Blues Fest.
- NEW HOME – [lastfm]ERIC BIBB [/lastfm] – This is from a new album by Eric called Troubadour Live and features additional guitar by Staffan Astner.
