Chicago will have its first new mayor in 22 years, when Richard M. Daley steps down and Rahm Emanuel is inaugurated on Monday. The mayor-elect blew in a call to the XRT Morning Show about his plans for this weekend. To quote Daley, it got a little “silly.”
Rahm Emanuel Talks With Lin & Mary
[photogallerylink id=65666 align=left]Emanuel’s theme for Saturday’s pre-inauguration festivities is “Chicago Together.” Visitors to the website can sign up for Saturday morning public service projects, and tickets to the afternoon’s free concert in Grant Park (Chicago, JC Brooks and the Uptown Sound, and more). They’re going to have family activities, too, like vegetable seed giveaways, soccer and yoga.
Lin is a little concerned about the mayor-elect’s ability to get out to hear music once the real work of being mayor kicks in (which we also discussed, particularly the General Assembly’s pending approval of education reform and his plan for cutting the budget). The mayor-elect assured our best friend in the whole world that he is still rocking, catching Black Joe Lewis and the Honeybears at Double Door and Neil Young in a recent XRT show at the Chicago Theatre.
High profile guests at Monday’s swearing-in ceremony? The mayor-elect was not naming names. But he did offer to let me give the speech. Free parking for everyone!
