Twenty-four years have gone by since the last release by Boston new-wave band The Cars.
To save hitting the quarter-century mark without any new material, [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Ric Ocasek[/lastfm] and other original bandmembers have gotten back together for an album of brand new songs, titled Move Like This.
Ahead of the album’s release on May 10, Last.fm Trends digs into the band’s catalog to see at how users are interacting with the veteran group’s classic tracks and albums.
Having formed in 1976, the band has seen more changes than most in the music industry. 5,290,255 total scrobbles tells its own story, with “Drive,” released in 1986, still taking in over 2,000 listeners every week.
It is the 1984 album Heartbreak City which has been the favored release amongst Last.fm listeners, with 786,413 scrobbles. It beats the band’s classic, self-titled debut by a full 224,644 scrobbles.
The band’s new album, Move Like This, will be released on May 10 and will no doubt breathe some fire into the band’s scrobble charts.
