In support of their upcoming album Collider, the [lastfm]Sam Roberts Band[/lastfm] havw offered up the first single “The Last Crusade” for free download. Joined by [lastfm]Califone[/lastfm] percussionist Ben Massarella and Antibalas woodwind wizard Stuart Bogie, Collider reinterprets, without tampering, the spirit of the band’s classic pop song craft and infectious melodies that countless critics fell in love with. Immediately apparent on the album’s colossal opening track “The Last Crusade,” which begins as a simmering soul shuffle before gradually intensifying into a brass-blasted Afro-funk blowout.
