Arcade Fire & U2's Mercury Records Pulls The Plug On CD & Vinyl Singles

u2 385 U2 Finally Confirmed As Headliners For Opening Night At Glastonbury

[photogallerylink id=57812 align=left]Home of [lastfm]U2[/lastfm], [lastfm]Arcade Fire[/lastfm], and [lastfm]Elton John[/lastfm] – Mercury Records – will no longer release singles in CD or vinyl form. Expect, of course, for very special event such as charity releases. Beginning immediately, singles will now only be offered as digital downloads.

Physical sales have recently made up around only 1% of the singles chart. Mercury will still participate in Record Store Day on April 16th with limited EP’s specifically for the event.

Tons of other bands are releasing special runs of vinyl for Record Store Day as well. [lastfm]Nirvana[/lastfm] will release a compilation of rare singles, [lastfm]Bruce Springsteen[/lastfm] will also have limited edition pressings.
