Warren Haynes

[lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Warren Hayne[/lastfm]s is one of the hardest working people in show biz.  He has played lead guitar in three of what many would call the greatest live touring bands:  The [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Allman Brothers Band[/lastfm], [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]The Grateful Dead[/lastfm] and [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Gov’t Mule[/lastfm].  Warren is now ready to put out his first “solo” album since 1993 and launch a tour that brings him to Chicago for a 93XRT show that goes on sale this weekend.

OK, first, a new song that will be released on a new Warren Haynes album can be heard tonight (Thursday) on New Noise at Nine, a program of the best of XRT’s New Music Thursday that begins at 9PM CST.

The new album, Man in Motion, drops on May 10 on soul music label Stax/Concord.  The album boasts an all-star line-up of musicians from funk, blues, soul and gospel backgrounds recorded in old school style Hi-Fi. The studio band includes [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Ivan Neville[/lastfm] on background vocals and organ, [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Ian McLagan[/lastfm] on piano, [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Ruthie Foster[/lastfm] on background vocals, [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]George Porter, Jr.[/lastfm] on bass and [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Ron Holloway[/lastfm] on saxophone. The tour begins with a date in New Orleans on the Thursday of the second weekend of the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival, aka Jazz Fest.  On this night, May 5, at the Mahalia Jackson Theater, the billing will be The Warren Haynes Band & Friends, as always in the Crescent City.

When it comes to Chicago, The Warren Haynes Band will be gospel/blues singer Ruthie Foster, Nigel Hall, Terence Higgins, Ron Holloway and Ron Johnson. At these shows, in addition to performing with the band, Warren will be performing a special acoustic set.  Tickets for the May 16th 93XRT show at Park West go on sale Saturday morning at 10AM.
