XRT's Marty Lennartz with Jack & Meg

[pullquote quote="The White Stripes do not belong to Meg and Jack anymore." credit="Meg and Jack White"]In a statement issued  on their official website, the [lastfm]White Stripes[/lastfm] announced that today, Feb, 2, 2011 the band has officially ended and will make no further recordings or perform live. “The reason is not due to artistic differences or lack of wanting to continue, nor any health issues as both Jack and Meg are feeling fine and in good health. It is for a myriad of reasons.”

“The White Stripes no longer belong to Jack and Meg anymore. The White Stripes belong to you and you can do with it whatever you want.”

[photogallerylink id=45608 align=left]Coming out of Detroit in the late 90′s, the former husband and wife team became one of the most popular and influential duo’s of the 2000′s.  XRT listeners showed their love as Jack and Meg consistently finished at or near the top of The XRT Listener Poll with two #2 Best Albums, Get Behind Me Satan (2005), Icky Thump (2007) and a #1 with Elephant (2005). “My Doorbell” was the #1 Best Song in 2005. In concert the band was always exciting and it  was jaw dropping how much music the two of them were able make on stage.

My White Stripes personal highlight was interviewing Jack and Meg at Bonnaroo in 2007, just before the release of their final studio album, “Icky Thump” and then watching them play from the side of the stage as [lastfm]Led Zeppelin[/lastfm]‘s John Paul Jones, standing right next to me, played air guitar along with the music. It’s obvious Jack will be around for a long time with his various projects, but what will become of & Meg?
