[lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Yo-Yo Ma[/lastfm] and the[lastfm link_type="artist_info"] Chicago Symphony Orchestra[/lastfm] want us to take the buds out of our ears and think about how music can build community. A big concept, built with small actions.
They call it Citizen Musician, and its launch over the weekend is chronicled by the Trib’s cutest reporter. It included Ma’s visit to Children’s Memorial Hospital, and playing unexpectedly with the Chicago Children’s Choir in the Millennium Park train station.
Maybe you’re not a world-class cellist or a young prodigy. But chances are, if you like XRT, you love music. Why not consider getting into the action? Bring music into a place that needs it. Help your kid’s school maintain its music curriculum. This weekend’s activities have me thinking about whether our community might be improved if we all learned to play together.
