Rock band Broken Bells has been nominated for Best Alternative Music Album at the 2011 Grammy Awards, joining an impressive list of nominees that include, amongst others, the multi-nominated Arcade Fire.

Last.fm Trends looks at the band’s 2010 self-titled debut to see how much chance the band has of walking away with the coveted award.

The Broken Bells duo is made up of Brian Burton (better known as the producer Danger Mouse) and James Mercer, who also has duties as the lead singer for rock band The Shins.

Broken Bells was released in March of 2010 and its impressive scrobble count of 5,163,557 took it to #23 in the Last.fm Best of 2010.

Only one of the album’s tracks broke the million scrobble mark, with the single “The High Road” serving up 1,292,647 scrobbles, almost double the seond placed track “The Ghost Inside” which has 816,880 scrobbles.

James Mercer has been a Grammy nominee before – his band The Shins were nominated in the same catergory in 2008 but didn’t win that time round.

Will he have more luck with Broken Bells? Tune into the Grammy Awards on February 13 at 8pm on CBS to find out.
