Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
The combination of a packed house, lots of beer and wine, and a shiny assortment of state of the art power tools could have been disastrous, but nary a finger was nicked. Safety first. Get all the 2010 results on this very website.
I’ll be in for Lin Brehmer on Martin Luther King Jr. day, here’s some musical homework:
- “Pride In the Name of Love” by [lastfm]U2[/lastfm]. They got a detail wrong, but that’s just a quibble with this stirring tribute about love in the face of death.
- “Happy Birthday” by [lastfm]Stevie Wonder[/lastfm]. The master of Motown was one of the main advocates behind getting the national holiday for Dr. King passed.
- “Abraham, Martin and John” by [lastfm]Dion[/lastfm]. Dion DiMucci, the pop doo-wop superstar had a hit with this atypical number (for him) about four assassinated American leaders. I saw him do this with [lastfm]Graham Parker[/lastfm] and [lastfm]Dave Edmunds[/lastfm] at an XRT show years ago with each singer taking a verse. Sadly, the list continues to grow.
