Chuck Berry — Give The Drummer Some

chuck Chuck Berry Give The Drummer Some[photogallerylink id=53682 align=left]Drummer Steve Gillis sent me the link below. Steve has been a member of [lastfm]Filter[/lastfm] among a dozen other bands but having [lastfm]Chuck Berry[/lastfm] blow you a kiss at a gig is what he’ll be telling his grand kids about some day.

BTW- joining Steve in Chuck Berry’s band at the Congress on New Year’s day was keyboardist Vijay Tellis-Nayak. Both of them run a recording studio in Chicago and were behind the board for one of my Anesthetic Best of 2010 releases. Find out more on this week’s Local Anesthetic year-end show, an hour long special this Sunday at 7pm.

I was at the Winter Dance show, and I disagree with news reports that Chuck Berry collapsed. He did not collapse on stage. After apologozing to the crowd, saying that he was “struggling” (but wasn’t specific about what he meant) he sat at the keyboard for a short time. Then he leaned forward on his forearms until people came out from the wings to help him walk offstage. At no time did he fall down in a “collapse.” I hope is is feeling better. He is a legend. Although he wasn’t at his best, I’ll always treasure the memory of seeing him ionstage with his guitar. Thanks Mr. Berry!
