Jean Shepherd painted an unforgettable portrait of Christmas in the midwest at a time when people gathered around the radio for entertainment. Just like today. Back in the 90′s the XRT Radio Players presented our own version in two parts. Mary Dixon, The Regular Guy, Terri Hemmert, Norm Winer, Frank E. Lee, Tom Marker are among the XRT family members coerced into participation. Instead of an air rifle, Lin Brehmer is yearning for a very special guitar. just listened to Part I and Part II of “An Xmas Story!” What a blast. Once again, XRT proves why it is the BEST radio station on the planet! Every Christmas I pull out tapes, yes, cassette tapes, of the XRT Christmas Spectaculars. (These tapes are the only reason I still have a tape player.) The version of “It’s a Wonderful Life” is one of my very favorites, and Peter Gabriel’s story of the WWI Christmas Truce is as poignant as anything ever played on radio. Thanks again for a wonderful Christmas, XRT, and thanks for being the best radio station on the planet.
