Lonnie Brooks, The Kinsey Report, Carlos Johnson and Ronnie Baker Brooks are all in town playing the blues this weekend here in the World Capital of the Blues. What’s a blues fan to do?
[lastfm]Lonnie Brooks[/lastfm] a genuine Chicago blues legend plays blues at Legends tonight (Friday.) Carlos Johnson, one of Chicago’s best blues guitarists plays at B.L.U.E.S. tonight and tomorrow. [lastfm]The Kinsey Report[/lastfm], one of the tightest units in Chicago with great original material, a driving rhythm section, amazing lead guitar by Donald Kinsey and even a bit of reggae thrown in play both nights of the weekend at Kingston Mines. My pick for blues this weekend is The Ronnie Baker Brooks Band at Clearwater Saloon in West Dundee. Ronnie is a brilliant guitar player and a soulful singer, he and his band have a complete command of the blues and can rock out, too, but I think what I like best about them is their timing. The music is always right in the pocket, thanks largely to bassman Carlton Armstrong, but it’s more than just that. The timing thing extends to the spaces in between songs and even Ronnie’s stage banter. It somehow all seems to have a rhythm. It’s a great live act and maybe a chance for you to check out a club you might not have been to before, Clearwater Saloon. See you out there.
