Folk-rock band The [lastfm]Avett Brothers[/lastfm] have done something that they’ve never done before: produced someone else’s album. So who is this lucky person? It’s Garrett Dutton (also known as [lastfm]G. Love[/lastfm]), the front man of the band [lastfm]G. Love & Special Sauce[/lastfm].
They were introduced to each other about a year ago in Boston and The Avett Brothers told G. Love just how much of an inspiration he was to them. They said that he showed them that they could stay true to their musical heritage: in the beginning of G. Love’s career, he managed to modernize class “back-porch” blues.
They hit it off at Summer Camp Music Festival 2010 in June and spent quality time jamming together on tour buses (see video below, filmed by Joe Kwon, Avett bassist). It wasn’t long before G. Love invited the Avett Brothers to join him in Asheville’s Echo Mountain Recording Studio.
The recording session ended last week and according to both groups, it was a great experience and described as “powerful, simple and honest.” Look for G. Love’s album this coming spring.
