Jeff Tweedy & Mavis Staples
[pullquote quote="She said that since she is an XRT listener, she was aware of Wilco and liked them."]It’s common knowledge that our affection for [lastfm]Mavis Staples[lastfm] runs deep here at XRT. Most of us have been fans for decades, and have regarded her as not only a great singer with an amazing history, but a woman of integrity, compassion and humor who continues to inspire us and keep our eyes on the prize of human rights. So it made our day when Mavis mentioned XRT in a feature piece this week in the New York Times!!!!! She said that since she is an XRT listener, she was aware of Wilco and liked them. She went on to say that “I happened to see them live on Austin City Limits, and I tell you, it blew my mind.” This led to her recent collaboration with Jeff Tweedy, You Are Not Alone. Music brings us together in so many ways… some spiritual and some as tangible as this. Beauty.
Here’s a video of Jeff joining Mavis on stage at Lollapalooza. That was a great start to an incredible weekend of music.
It’s such a great song and overlooked for years. Thanks to Mavis and Jeff for bringing it back. Here’s John Fogerty singing his song at Bonnaroo.
And the original recording by Creedence Clearwater Revival.
