Dave Matthes & Boyd Tinsley
[lastfm]Dave Matthews[/lastfm] brought the excitement and atmosphere of a playoffs run to Wrigleyville this weekend.
I attended the first of two sold-out XRT Shows at Wrigley Field and from where I was sitting, Dave did not disappoint. The peak of the evening came in the form of a ferocious cover of the [lastfm]Talking Heads[/lastfm]‘ “Burning Down the House.”
Well known as being a touring powerhouse, [lastfm]Dave Matthews Band[/lastfm] will not take to the road in 2011, so you could think these sold-out concerts as a victory lap for DMB.

Let me tell you, this was not the typical Dave Matthews experience. DMB has become a polarizing force, but love ‘em or hate ‘em, they are indeed a force. According to Metromix, DMB was the top touring act of the decade, selling 11.6 million tickets and grossed $529.1 million in North America from 2000-2009.

Dave dished out the hits on Friday night: “Crush,” “One Sweet World,” “Shake Me Like a Monkey,” “Don’t Drink the Water” and added typically goofy chatter between sets.
The night continued in typical DMB fashion with the extended solos you’d expect from Boyd Tinsley.
The bandmate who seemed to be enjoying the night the most was drummer, Carter Beauford who rocked a Cubs jersey through the entire set and dished out what seemed like 100 sets of drumsticks proir to the band’s encore.

Let’s not forget the hat-clad pop singer-songwriter [lastfm]Jason Mraz[/lastfm], who set the vibe for the evening early, calling for hi-fives between everyone in their immediate area. Mraz was backed by a choir wearing Cubs jerseys and stuck to the hits like “I’m Yours.”
To catch Dave before the end of 2010, view renaming dates of the DMB tour schedule. Dave will perform in another MLB ballpark on October 2 as part of Farm Aid in Milwaukee’s Miller Park.
