cb 125211 Iggy And The Stooges Bring Raw Power To The Riv In their first Chicago appearance since  being inducted into The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, [lastfm]Iggy and The Stooges[/lastfm] blew out eardrums, beat up microphones and played every song from the classic Raw Power album during Sunday night’s XRT Show at The Riv.  My ears actually were still ringing as late as Monday afternoon after the 70 minute sonic assault. It was the most exhausting, chaotic and thrilling hour I can remember. Oh yeah, sweaty too. The show was moved from The Aragon across the street to the smaller and sweltering Riviera Theatre. It was the perfect place to see The Stooges. Old school. Punk rock.

[photogallerylink id=35363 align=left]Iggy, at 63 years old recently said he was finished stage diving.  He’s evidently  had a change of heart. The shirtless wonder repeatedly dove into the crowd including once between songs saying, “This one’s for nothing”. He jumped, pranced and good naturedly flipped the audience off.  When not smashing the mic on the floor, he’d fling it into the audience and once pretended to hang himself with the chord. He invited fans onto the stage for one song and everybody danced uncontrollably while snapping pictures with their  cell phones.  He crawled on his belly and left a lake of perspiration on the floor. Oh yeah, the music was great too.  Guitarist James Williamson, fresh from his 30 year retirement, was on hand  to relive the Raw Power days, joined by original drummer Scott Ashton and ringer on bass, ex-Minuteman Mike Watt.  By show’s end we were  deaf,  dehydrated and  delirious.  I’m still recovering.

Audio is not the best here, but this video shows the energy of the show.
