New York based band, [lastfm]The Strokes[/lastfm] have been called by some as “the saviors of Rock and Roll”. Forming in 1998, the band became well-known during the early 2000s, as a leader in the garage rock/ post-punk revival. The Strokes will make their only 2010 Chicago appearance at Lollapalooza this August.
The band consists of Julian Casablancas (lead vocals), Nick Valensi (lead guitar), Albert Hammond, Jr. (rhythm guitar), Nikolai Fraiture (bass guitar) and Fabrizio Moretti(drums and percussion). In 2001, The Strokes released their debut album, Is This It , which gave them the hits “Last Night” and “When it Started” and a large fan base in the US, UK and Australia.
Their second album “Room on Fire” was released in 2003, and maintained the same sound and style that they created with the first. In 2005, the single “Juicebox” was leaked online from their unreleased third album, “First Impressions of the Earth”. The album was then pushed up to be released in 2006, and “Juicebox” became a top ten hit in the US and UK.
Casablancas and Valensi started writing material for their fourth album at the beginning of 2009, and after many delays, the band says that the album will now be released in January 2011.
Come see the Strokes perform this August at Lollapalooza.
