No Sleep Till Brooklyn

View Comments

Had a chance to spend some quality time in Brooklyn last week for a graduation. Kara Anne, the “girl with a plan,” my longtime co-host along  with Jane Lauren “she’s never boring” on Take Our Daughters to Work Day is now a Master from Brooklyn College!  She promises to use her degree for good, unless there’s some serious money at stake. One of the commencement speakers was alumna Ramona Lofton, aka Sapphire, whose book “Push” was made into the movie “Precious.”  (Her speech was more negative than inspiring.)  Brooklyn was hopping with activity, it was loud and vibrant and it smelled like meat, garbage (no alleys) and the occasional hint of ocean breeze. We ate at several tiny but trendy restaurants, had iced coffee and supremely good bagels and lox. I didn’t see [lastfm]MGMT[/lastfm] or [lastfm]Vampire Weekend [/lastfm]walking around, but did get hijacked by a rogue taxi. (We stiffed him on the tip…he was not happy.) We ate thin crust coal-fired pizza at Lombardi’s and it was pretty darn tasty. There was even a statue of Lenin on top of a condo. Bring lots of money if you go.
